Story About Us

La Promesa Foundation is a non-for-profit corporation founded in August 2022 by the President, Jesús Torres, to create opportunities for Hispanic students in the Pittsburgh region through education.

As one of the fastest-growing populations in the United States, Hispanic students continue to face barriers to higher education, many being first-generation college students navigating the process on their own. La Promesa exist to help close that gap.

Through our scholarship program and community driven events like our annual Celebrity Basketball Fundraiser, we are committed to investing in the next generation of leaders and making college more accessible for those who need it most.

La Promesa Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Why Invest In Our Future?

National (U.S.)

- Hispanic/Latino students are the second-largest group in U.S. colleges, making up over 20% of undergraduate enrollment.

- Despite growth, only about 25% of Hispanic adults (25+) hold a bachelor's degree, compared to over 40% nationally.

- Hispanic students are more likely to be first-generation college students, which increases financial and support barriers.

Pennsylvania / Regional

- Hispanic/Latino make up roughly 8-9% of Pennsylvania's population, and growing.

- In many PA regions, Hispanic students have lower college completion rates than the state average.

- First-generation and underrepresented students in PA are more likely to face financial gaps that scholarships can directly impact.

Here in Pittsburgh, the Hispanic and Latino population is growing rapidly, by more than 40% in Allegheny County over the past decade. In a city where diversity is still developing, access to culturally relevant support systems can be limited. That's why investing in these students is so important, not just for their success, but for the strength and future of our entire community.
